Qasil powder is refreshingly simple — leaves, ground fine. But powder-to-paste skincare has a small learning curve, and technique is the difference between "fine" and "why is my skin glowing." Here are the exact methods we recommend, with ratios.
Method 1 — The classic face mask (1–3× per week)
- Mix: 1 teaspoon qasil powder + roughly 1 teaspoon warm water. Stir into a smooth paste the texture of Greek yogurt. Too runny? Add a pinch of powder. Rose water works beautifully too.
- Apply: A thin, even layer over clean, damp skin. Avoid the eye area.
- Wait 10–15 minutes. It will tighten slightly as it dries — normal. Don't push past the point where it's fully cracked and flaking; a mask does its work while still slightly tacky.
- Rinse with warm water, massaging gently in circles as you go — this is the built-in exfoliation step. Pat dry.
- Follow with moisture: your usual cream, or 2–3 drops of a facial oil like our Qasil Face Oil.
A bamboo bowl and spatula makes mixing cleaner and keeps water out of your jar — wet powder in the jar is the main cause of clumping.
Method 2 — The 30-second daily cleanse
Qasil's saponins are mild enough for everyday use:
- Shake about ½ teaspoon into damp palms.
- Add a splash of water and rub palms together into a light slurry.
- Massage over your face for 30 seconds, then rinse.
It won't foam like a sulfate cleanser — that's the point. Skin should feel clean and soft, never tight. If your skin currently tolerates only "gentle" cleansers, this is the method to start with.
Method 3 — The wash-day hair & scalp rinse
- Mix: 2–3 tablespoons qasil + enough warm water for a loose, pourable paste (a smoothie, not a yogurt).
- Apply to damp hair in sections, massaging into the scalp with fingertips — the scalp is where the clarifying happens.
- Leave 10–15 minutes (a shower cap helps).
- Rinse very thoroughly. Fine powder hides near the roots — rinse a minute longer than feels necessary.
- Seal: follow with Sidr Oil on lengths, or Coconut Qasil Hair Butter on ends. Sleep in a satin bonnet to keep the moisture in — here's the full nighttime hair routine.
Mixing upgrades
- Dry or mature skin: mix with a teaspoon of honey or a splash of milk instead of water.
- Dull, tired skin: 50/50 qasil and turmeric mask powder for a brightening boost (turmeric is face-only, and always use a spoon — it stains fingers).
- Oily, congestion-prone skin: alternate weeks with Moroccan red clay — here's how they compare.
Mistakes to avoid
- Wet spoon in the jar. Moisture clumps the powder. Keep it dry, always.
- Letting the mask crack completely. Rinse while slightly tacky.
- Skipping moisturizer after. Freshly polished skin drinks it in — don't waste the window.
- Under-rinsing hair. Rinse longer than you think.
FAQ
Can I pre-mix a batch?
Mix fresh each time. Qasil contains no preservatives — a stored paste is a petri dish.
Can I use qasil around my eyes?
Keep it clear of the immediate eye area; the skin there is too thin for exfoliation.
How long does a jar last?
An 8oz jar is roughly 45+ face masks — months of routine. Heavy users (face + hair) may prefer the 3-month supply.
